The 2010-2011 term began on Monday, September 13th.

Eventually, this page will have more useful information about what to expect before the term begins. Until that happens, please contact the Program Director (PD) with any questions or suggestions for content that would make this page useful.

In the meantime, here are some things to start thinking about:

For Members

* Site Placements — Please send the PD your top three site choices as soon as possible. The earlier you interview with sites, the more options you will have. Once you have met with at least two sites, let the PD know what your top choice would be, if any. She'll work with you (nd with the sites to find the best match.

* Contact Information — Please keep the PD informed of any changes to your contact information (e.g. if your college email address is going to expire or if you change cell phones). Most details about orientation and the beginning of the term will be sent via email over the summer.

* Orientation — The 2010-2011 term will begin on Monday, September 13th The first three days will consist of orientation; Thursday and Friday are a hybrid of site service and Corps teambuilding activities. More details will be forthcoming, but all you need to know from day to day is where and when to show up.  Location to be announced!  Breakfast will be served for at least the first part of the week!

* Relocating — If you are moving to the area or want to move to a location that is closer to your service site, please feel free to contact the PD. While we do not guarantee or provide housing for our members, we do refer members to landlords who have worked well with previous Corps members. Members also frequently decide to seek housing together. The PD is able to put those people in touch with one another before the term begins.

* MySpace — YouthServe has a MySpace page. Feel free to check it out and start networking with program alums! Keep in mind that it will likely take us awhile to track down everyone who has participated in the program over the past ten years. If you know of someone who should be on our friends list, please send them along!

All linked files are either in Microsoft Word or Excel format. If you need the files in a different format, please contact the PD. (Note: all references to "the PD" can be substituted with "Kate". Contact info below.)

Member Timesheet — Download this to your computer, complete it electronically, print out, sign, get supervisor's signature, then give to the PD at the weekly Corps meeting. Must be signed in ink! Must be handed in on time. (Note: seemingly odd rules like "Must be signed in ink" are grant-provision mandates. Please comply.)

Monthly Logs and Statistics Sheet — Complete these logs and email to the PD on the first day of every month. (currently undergoing revision)

Youth Survey — Any young person between the ages of 11-20 that you work with on a regular basis for longer than three weeks should be given this survey twice. Administer once at the beginning of your time together, and administer again at the end, at least three weeks after the first date. For data tracking purposes, youth must either use their real names or use consistent aliases for each survey. Give to the PD.

Volunteer Survey —Any volunteer you recruit should fill out this brief survey. Can be filled out electronically, or simply printed and given to the PD. You should administer the survey at the end of the service that is performed. Trying to track someone down weeks later could be a logistical nightmare!

Member Handbook — This is a fairly large document. Please don't waste paper by printing it out! If you want a paper copy, please ask the PD and she will gladly make a double sided copy for you.

Health Insurance — Note: these are new forms! We have a new plan this year, so please don't try to use last year's claim forms. Medical Claim Form, Dental Claim Form, Vision Claim Form, Benefits Summary, Additional Disclosure Information; and Questions and Answers. The PD will happily make you a double sided copy if you want to print any of this out.

Loan Forbearance — Download this form, fill it out, and give it to the PD to sign and then send it to your loan company.

Member Agreement — This is the contract you signed which includes Rules of Conduct, Prohibited Activities, Disciplinary Procedures, and Grievance Policy.

Civic Engagement Reading List — This list contains the books, articles, and webpages you may read for your CE reading hours. It also contains a list of approved movies and radio programs that may be substituted for those who prefer not to read. This list will be updated throughout the year. As always -- please don't print it out! Ask the PD for a double-sided copy!

Civic Engagement — Suggested Alternatives to Books: News Radio, civic-themed lectures, movies, reading the newspaper, certain magazines, going to Town Meeting or a City Council meeting, reading online news, audio books, taped lectures, and "social commentary" field trips (e.g. The Peace Pagoda, Seeds of Solidarity, Traprock Peace Center, etc.)

Mileage Reimbursement Form — This is for Corps related travel such as AmeriCorps Opening Day or Corps service projects. Due to the PD by the last day of the month.

Corps Meeting Calendar — Corps Meeting Schedule and Other Important Dates for Members
